Description of the Motif

The Church of St. Donatus is the symbol of the city of Zadar and the most famous monumental building in Croatia from the early Middle Ages (9th century). The round pre-Romanesque church with an unusual cylindrical shape and a double interior space stands out for its originality. Until the 15th century, the church was called the Church of the Holy Trinity, and since then it has been named St. Donatus, after the bishop who had it built.
